Otesaga Hotel Seniors Open Tees Off Sept. 2 --Hall Of Famer Harmon Killebrew To Serve As Tournament's Celebrity Host-- (COOPERSTOWN,
N.Y.): The 26th Annual Otesaga Hotel Seniors Open and Pro-Am Golf
Tournament will be held Sept. 2-5 at the Leatherstocking Golf Course in
Cooperstown. The Pro-Am will be held Tuesday,
Sept. 2, with Hall of Famer and Minnesota Twins legend Harmon
Killebrew scheduled to appear as the celebrity host. The
three-day 2008 Seniors Open runs Wednesday through Friday. The Seniors
Open is one of the country's premier non-PGA tournaments with a purse
of $100,000 - including a first-place prize of $10,000 to be awarded to
one of the 138 golfers registered. The presenting
sponsors for the 2008 tournament are NBT Bank, Coca-Cola Enterprises
and Strategic Financial Services, LLC, of Utica. Tuesday's Pro-Am will
feature approximately 32 teams. The staffing of the teams features four
amateurs and one professional in a two-man, best-ball format that
begins with an 11:30 a.m. shotgun start. Proceeds from
this traditional post-Labor Day event benefit Pathfinder Village,
located in nearby Edmeston, a residential community dedicated to
children and adults with Down syndrome. Annually, the Seniors Open
raises more than $50,000 for scholarships for Pathfinder Village and
directly helps the Village's 80-plus residents. More than $1.3 million
has been raised for Pathfinder Village through the years. Proceeds
also benefit the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum educational
programs, which enable the world-famous Museum to fulfill its
educational mission and care for its collections. "We're
looking forward to another great tournament at the Leatherstocking Golf
Course," said Edward A. Shafer, president and CEO of Pathfinder
Village. "For over a quarter of a century, the Otesaga Hotel Seniors
Open and the Pro-Am have been key to providing scholarships to the men,
women and children who live at Pathfinder Village. The tournament has
helped individuals who have Down syndrome live and grow in a stable,
nurturing environment. We are grateful for the support of The Otesaga,
the tournament's Presenting Sponsors, the golfers and the volunteers
who have made this tournament such a success." In 2007,
Cooperstown native Scott Spence, a Portsmouth, R.I. pro, earned the
victory with a 10-under par 206. The complete list of former champions:
