--Hall Of Famer Harmon Killebrew To Serve As Tournament's Celebrity Host--

(
COOPERSTOWN, N.Y.): The 26th Annual Otesaga Hotel Seniors Open and Pro-Am Golf Tournament will be held Sept. 2-5 at the Leatherstocking Golf Course in Cooperstown.

The Pro-Am will be held Tuesday, Sept. 2,  with Hall of Famer and Minnesota Twins legend Harmon Killebrew scheduled to appear as the celebrity host.

The three-day 2008 Seniors Open runs Wednesday through Friday. The Seniors Open is one of the country's premier non-PGA tournaments with a purse of $100,000 - including a first-place prize of $10,000 to be awarded to one of the 138 golfers registered.

The presenting sponsors for the 2008 tournament are NBT Bank, Coca-Cola Enterprises and Strategic Financial Services, LLC, of Utica. Tuesday's Pro-Am will feature approximately 32 teams. The staffing of the teams features four amateurs and one professional in a two-man, best-ball format that begins with an 11:30 a.m. shotgun start.

Proceeds from this traditional post-Labor Day event benefit Pathfinder Village, located in nearby Edmeston, a residential community dedicated to children and adults with Down syndrome. Annually, the Seniors Open raises more than $50,000 for scholarships for Pathfinder Village and directly helps the Village's 80-plus residents. More than $1.3 million has been raised for Pathfinder Village through the years.

Proceeds also benefit the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum educational programs, which enable the world-famous Museum to fulfill its educational mission and care for its collections.

"We're looking forward to another great tournament at the Leatherstocking Golf Course," said Edward A. Shafer, president and CEO of Pathfinder Village. "For over a quarter of a century, the Otesaga Hotel Seniors Open and the Pro-Am have been key to providing scholarships to the men, women and children who live at Pathfinder Village. The tournament has helped individuals who have Down syndrome live and grow in a stable, nurturing environment. We are grateful for the support of The Otesaga, the tournament's Presenting Sponsors, the golfers and the volunteers who have made this tournament such a success."

In 2007, Cooperstown native Scott Spence, a Portsmouth, R.I. pro, earned the victory with a 10-under par 206. The complete list of former champions: 2006: Bobby Heins; 2005: Darrell Kestner; 2004: John Gentile; 2003: Lonnie Nielsen; 2002: Dan Wood; 2001: John Traub; 2000: Paul Parjeckas; 1999: Marty Bohen; 1998: Tony Perla; 1997: John Gentile; 1996: Austin Straub; 1995: Tom Joyce; 1994: Tom Joyce; 1993: Ray Montgomery; 1992: Dave Philo; 1991: Tom Joyce; 1990: Jim Albus; 1989: Dick Sarta; 1988: Pete Hessemer; 1987: Doug Dalziel; 1986: Bob Bruno; 1985: Richard Howell; 1984: Rolland Stafford; 1983: Donald Hoenig.

Lakefront Concert Series Continues August 21

-- Air Force Band to Take Center Stage at Lakefront Park at 6:30 p.m. --

(COOPERSTOWN, NY) The United States Air Force Band of Liberty will play a special concert to begin at 6:30 p.m. at Lakefront Park on Tuesday, August 21.

This exceptional performing unit delivers programs chosen to highlight the diversity of America's musical and cultural heritage, combining many different types of music. The members of the United States Air Force Band of Liberty are highly talented, professional musicians who bring to each concert the skill and knowledge gained from years of study and performing experience.

Additionally, Cooperstown's Friends of the Village Parks will sell special tee-shirts - for children and adults - at the concert, with proceeds earmarked to benefit all six Cooperstown-area parks: Council Rock, Fairy Springs, Lakefront Park, Pioneer Park, Three Mile, Village Gardens.

The family-oriented concert series, held every Tuesday evening in July and August, concludes next week with the Saints Jazz Quintet Plus One, which will play a number of jazz standards, blues, Dixieland and Latin music in a 7 p.m. concert at the historic bandstand in scenic Lakefront Park in Cooperstown. There is no charge for the concerts thanks to the generous support of the Village of Cooperstown.

The Village of Cooperstown purchased Lakefront Park in 1936 and expanded it by an additional purchase in 1961. The 2.6 acre park is a popular venue for relaxation, reading, boat-docking and concerts. The main entrance is on Lake Street and marked by natural stone posts, with stone steps descending to the park and lake.
